Torre del Mar takes its name (Tower of the sea) from the many watch towers that used to guard the coast in Roman and Moorish times. Torre del Mar is a coastal resort situated 28 km east of  Malaga within the Axarquía region. It boasts the longest promenade on the Costa del Sol to take lovely long or short walks in the sun, or maybe stop and have a drink in a "chiringuito", which is a bar situated on the beach where they serve most meals but most commonly fresh fish.

With over 300 days of sunshine each year, long summers and short winters it's no wonder the Axarquia's climate was voted the best in the whole of Europe!

Torrox Pueblo.

Torrox Pueblo is located approx 4kms inland from the coast at Torrox Costa and situated on the East side of Malaga. This typical white“Moorish” village, lies approx 120 metres above sea level on the scenic “route of the Sun and Wine”.

Torrox Costa, famous as having the “Best climate in Europe,” is located only 46 kms from the airport on the East side of Malaga, and enjoys 9 kms of sandy beaches.

The Nerja Caves Foundation

Discovered in 1959 by 5 young men from the village, The Nerja Caves have been open to the public since 1960, and receives around four hundred thousand visitors per year, making it a major tourist attraction of Nerja and Axarquia.

 Competa is a town and municipality in the administrative region of Axarquía, in the Province of Malaga. The municipality is situated approximately 18 kilometres from the coast and 52 kilometres from Málaga, the provincial capital. It is situated at 638 metres above sea level in the foothills of La Maroma (the highest peak of the Sierra Tejeda). The population is spread over the southern slopes of the Sierra de Almijara.


Axarquía is situated within the Málaga province of Andalucia. To the east of Málaga, it stretches from Rincón de la Victoria to Maro (east of Nerja) and inland to Alfarnate, covering 1,021 square kilometres of territory.
