Playa de Torre del Mar - A three kilometre long tourist magnet on the Costa del Sol

One of the most popular holiday destinations on the Costa del Sol in Andalusia is the Playa de Torre del Mar. it is a wide sandy beach, spreading over 3 km, located in the Torre del Mar resort which is about 40 minutes away from Malaga. It is usually filled with travellers from Spain, Italy, and France during the summer months. There are a variety of restaurants along the large promenade and at night, the centre of this holiday resort becomes filled with a lot of people.

To get to the lovely beach, you only have to cross the street. The beach is littered with lots of fishing boats to show how locals and travellers pass the time. The beach sand also has a perfect blend of grey, fine sand and small pebbles. There are also a lot of other activities available including surfing, canoeing, stand-up paddle boards as well as pedal boats. There is also a small inflatable water park during the summer months where you can climb walls and slide and have fun.

Safety is maintained by a life guard who stays in a tall wooden tower, monitoring people’s activities on the water. Passing through the wooden walkways, there are several places where you can hire lounger and beach umbrellas. There are also other play areas such as, a fitness trail, and a children’s play park that becomes extremely busy during the hours when the sun goes down, both of which can be a lot of fun to kids and even adults. From a distance, you will be able to see the large blue lighthouse.

There are several beautifully painted toilet blocks and Chiringuito’s positioned at intervals at the back of the beach. The numerous verdant palm islands serve as comfortable shaded beach covers for the day time, and families spread out with folding tables and little marquees to have a picnic under the beautiful starry sky. There are also a couple of free dance events along the promenade during the summer months, where you can listen and dance to flamenco music. The Playa de Torre del Mar also plays host to a night market in the summer.

Torre del Mar beach records extremely high number of visits every year, especially during the summer months. The best part is; for those who need time out of the partying and beach life to get some quite and serenity, there are numerous places where you can visit close to the beach where you can be left alone with your thoughts and peace. At the far end of Torre del Mar you will find the amazing Café del Mar bar/nightclub which has a wide variety of food, cocktails, entertainment etc to make your stay even more worthwhile. To the west, the port area of Puerto de le Caleta de Velez adjoins the jetty while the beach promenade runs into a natural dune landscape on the east.
