The town of Torre del Mar has a population of around 20,000 people. Traditionally sugar cane was the main cultivation but farmers are converting to mangoes, avocados, kiwis, etc. Torre del Mar has a lot of atmosphere with numerous restaurants, bars and shops and during the past years has become very modern. Many Spanish tourist visits Torre del Mar all year round due to its good climate.
Festivals are located at the end of the promenade next to "El Faro" (the Lighthouse), there is the famous "Feria de Santiago & Santa Ana" (Fair of Santiago and Saint Ana) which is a travelling fairground, the fair is held on the 22nd of July. Also every year they celebrate "La Romeria" (Pilgrimage).This is a Catholic traditional party which is celebrated all over Andalucia not just in Torre del Mar. Everyone gets dressed up, mostly women in flamenco dresses and parade around Torre del Mar and Velez Malaga by horse, with floats or even just by foot as they dance and sing along to typical Andalucía flamenco music. ''Semana Santa'' (Holy week) is celebrated every year for people to show their religious faith in beliefs, plus many other parades and parties throughout the year. The latest editions are the Weekend Beach Festival in the first week of July and the Airshow in the last week of July.
Places to visit in the summer months from June to September Torre del Mar's water park Aquaveliz is open, and offers a great day out for everyone. The famous sight to visit is the Lighthouse which has been functioning for 150 years. If you have an architectural interest visit the town's beautiful church called "Iglesia de San Andres". Situated north of Torre del Mar the Shopping Centre "El Ingenio" offers a wide selection of shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars, gym and cinema.

Beaches - The beach at Torre del Mar has over 4km of promenade and sand beaches with all types of amenities and a very friendly atmosphere. Recently added are services for the less able. Torre del Mar's beaches have a wide selection of bars, so in the summer it is very typical to go to the beach and at lunchtime to sit in the bar in your swimsuit and have a traditional plate of skewered sardines.

Golf - The nearest golf course to Torre del Mar is Baveria Golf course which is known as one of the most popular golf courses on the Costa del Sol. With magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea and Mountains, this golf course was opened in 2000 and designed by José María Cañizares the professional golfer. With this golf course being visited by 35,000 players every year, don't miss out on your chance to a hit a few balls at Torre del Mar's local golf course.
