Torre del Mar takes its name (Tower of the sea) from the many watch towers that used to guard the coast in Roman and Moorish times. Torre del Mar is a coastal resort situated 28 km east of Malaga within the Axarquía region. It boasts the longest promenade on the Costa del Sol to take lovely long or short walks in the sun, or maybe stop and have a drink in a "chiringuito", which is a bar situated on the beach where they serve most meals but most commonly fresh fish.
Competa is a town and municipality in the administrative region of Axarquía, in the Province of Malaga. The municipality is situated approximately 18 kilometres from the coast and 52 kilometres from Málaga, the provincial capital. It is situated at 638 metres above sea level in the foothills of La Maroma (the highest peak of the Sierra Tejeda). The population is spread over the southern slopes of the Sierra de Almijara.

(Mostly known just as Velez), a municipality 26 kms to the east of the province of Malaga situated in the Costa del Sol and only 1 kilometre inland from Torre del Mar.
Velez Malaga is the most important city located in the Axarquia region with a population of approximately 73.000 people.
